Daiso Recalls Children's Coin Purses and Jewelry Due to Risk of Lead Exposure

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Children's Coin Purse and Jewelry

Importer: Daiso California LLC of Hayward, Calif.

Hazard: The surface paint on the zippers of the coin purses and the clasps on the jewelry contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Description: This recall involves children's coin purses with rainbow stripes and children's earrings and necklaces that have blue, pink, red, white and yellow colored droplets. "The Coin Purse" and "Mobile Case Coin Puase" are printed on the tag attached to the purse. "Colorful Drop Accessory Bracelet" is printed on the front of the necklace packages and "Colorful Drop Accessory Pierce" is printed on the front of the earring packages. The tag and packaging have "Produced for Daiso Japan" on either the front or back.

Sold at: Daiso stores in California and Washington from May 2009 through December 2009 for about $1.50.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled products away from children and contact Daiso for a full refund.

Children’s Jewelry Recalled by SmileMakers Due to High Levels of Cadmium

Distributor: SmileMakers Inc., of Spartanburg, S.C.

Hazard: The metal substrate in the jewelry contains high levels of cadmium. Cadmium is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Description: This recall involves "Happy" charm bracelets and football rings. The "Happy" charm bracelet is comprised of colorful beads on a small elastic band to which a metal charm in the shape of a butterfly, moon or sun is attached. The football ring is a small adjustable metal band to which a football charm (made of metal) is attached.

Distributed at: Doctor and dentist offices nationwide from June 2005 through March 2010 for free.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled jewelry away from children and discard the product.

Youth Tiara Recalled by Wilton Industries Due to Lead Exposure Hazard

Hazard: The tiara contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Description: This recall involves the Wilton® Youth Tiara with a SKU number of 120-228. The SKU number is located on the back of the package in the lower right corner. The tiara is silver-colored with clear crystals.

Evenflo Recalls to Repair Drop-Side Cribs Due to Entrapment, Suffocation and Fall Hazards

Name of Product: Jenny Lind Cribs

Distributor: Evenflo Inc., of Miamisburg, Ohio

Hazard: The cribs' drop sides can malfunction, detach or otherwise fail, causing part of the drop side to fall out of position, creating a space into which an infant or toddler can roll and become wedged or entrapped, which can lead to strangulation or suffocation. A child can also fall out of the crib. Drop-side incidents can also occur due to incorrect assembly and with age-related wear and tear.

Incidents/Injuries: CPSC and Evenflo have received 31 reports of drop sides that malfunctioned or detached. One involved the entrapment of a seven month old boy between the drop side and the crib mattress. He sustained bumps and bruises to his head. Nine children fell out of the crib when the drop side detached, unlocked or fell off. Seven of those children sustained minor injuries, including bumps, bruises and cuts. Fourteen other incidents involved no injuries. In addition, CPSC has received two reports of children who became entrapped when the mattress support detached in one corner of cribs manufactured between 2000 and 2004.

Description: The following Evenflo crib models are included in this recall. The model number is located on a label on the bottom beam of the headboard.

Rhino Toys Inc. Recalls Bead Toy Due to Choking Hazard

Name of Product: Beado handheld bead play toys

Importer: Rhino Toys Inc., of Santa Cruz, Calif.

Haard: The toys' plastic wires can detach from the hubs due to insufficient adhesive, allowing the beads to slide off. The loose beads pose a choking hazard to young children.

Description: This recall involves the Beado hand-held beaded play toy with model number 1501 and date code 02910 04323A. The product measures six inches in diameter and is composed of four blue plastic "hubs", six white plastic "wires" and twelve multi-colored beads that slide along the wires. The model number and date code are printed on the bottom of the packaging and the date code is also inside of the blue hubs (see picture below). Beados that have a date code different than 02910 or have a date code of 02910 and an inspection sticker on the bottom of the packaging and a black mark by the date code inside the blue hub (see picture below) are not included in this recall.

Crate and Barrel Recalls Succulent Plant-Shaped Candles in a Pot Due to Fire Hazard

Name of product: Succulent plant-shaped decorative candles in a pot

Importer: Crate and Barrel, a division of Euromarket Designs Inc., of Northbrook, Ill.

Hazard: The wax in this candle melts quickly inside and overflows outside the pot and can ignite, posing a serious burn and fire hazard to consumers.

Description: This recall involves a set of nine succulent plant-shaped green candles in clay pots that were sold in a black container with a SKU number of 557-806. The SKU numbers are on the bottom of the original packaging.

Infant Death Prompts Recall of Ring Slings Made by Sprout Stuff Due to Suffocation Risk

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Sprout Stuff, of Austin, Texas, is announcing the recall of about 40 Sprout Stuff infant ring slings. CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using these slings due to a risk of suffocation to infants.

CPSC and Sprout Stuff are aware of one report of a death of a 10-day-old boy in the recalled sling in Round Rock, Texas in 2007.

The Sprout Stuff infant ring sling is fabric/natural muslin and comes with or without a shoulder pad. The sling is worn by parents and caregivers to carry a child up to two years of age. "Sprout Stuff" is printed on the back side of the tail's hem.

Sprout Stuff sold the recalled infant slings, which were made in the United States, directly to consumers between October 2006 and May 2007 for between $35 and $45. Sprout Stuff is directly contacting known purchasers of the recalled infant slings.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled slings and contact Sprout Stuff to return the sling for a full refund. Buckyballs® High Powered Magnets Sets Recalled by Due to Violation of Federal Toy Standard

Hazard: The high powered magnets sets were labeled "Ages 13+" and do not meet the mandatory toy standard F963-08 (effective August 17, 2009) which requires that such powerful magnets are not sold for children under 14. Magnets found by young children can be swallowed or aspirated. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract each other and cause intestinal perforations or blockages, which can be fatal.

Description: This recall involves the Buckyballs® high powered magnets sets labeled "Ages 13+". The set contains 216 powerful rare earth magnets. It is intended to build unlimited shapes and patterns. Since March 2010, Buckyballs® high powered magnets sets were labeled "Keep Away From All Children" and are not being recalled.

Sold at: The recalled magnets were sold at a variety of stores, including stores selling children's toys, stationery and office supplies and various online sites from March 2009 through March 2010.

The charm is attached to a cord using a metal ring and cylinder and included with the sets as a separate accessory that children can attach to the toy necklace, bracelet or key chain.
